FFA Business and Industry Tours Build Relationships, Generate Enthusiasm

(Lincoln, Neb.) – The Nebraska FFA state officer team just wrapped up an eventful and fruitful week of business and industry tours, August 3-7. This annual week long event enabled the officers to reach out to 15 existing and new FFA sponsors throughout Nebraska.

Participating organizations included United Farmers Cooperative, American Dairy Association/Dairy Council of Nebraska, Nebraska Rural Radio Network, Ward Laboratories, Duo Lift Manufacturing Company, Aurora Cooperative, Lextron Animal Health, Nebraska Corn Board, Nebraska Department of Agriculture, Farm Credit Services of America, Kruger Seed Company, the Nebraska Corn Growers Association, The Scoular Company, Smart Chicken, Ag Processing Inc. and the USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service.

“Meeting with sponsors really emphasized the importance of spreading the word about agriculture and issues facing the industry. It also exposed us to several exciting agricultural careers,” said Katie Frenzen, Nebraska State FFA President. “These organizations contribute so much to FFA and the state of Nebraska in general. It is a reminder to never take those who support us for granted. It was a fantastic week that all of us appreciated.”

According to Tammy Meyer, executive director of the Nebraska FFA Foundation, these visits provide an excellent opportunity for the officer team to interact and learn from some of Nebraska’s most influential agricultural business leaders while thanking them for their support.

Organizations provided the officers with an overview of their businesses, discussed the opportunities and challenges facing the industry, and offered career-planning advice. In return, the officers answered questions and provided updates regarding Nebraska FFA and agricultural education from the student perspective.

“Business and industry tours are always a highlight of our year because it enables the officers to take FFA directly to the sponsor and build the relationship,” said Meyer. “The students and sponsors come away with a fresh perspective, greater knowledge and renewed enthusiasm; it is inspiring. This is the most personalized way to express our gratitude for all they do for young people in Nebraska agriculture.”
