On June 15, the Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska Rick Sheehy and 60 golfers enjoyed a day of golf at the ruggedly beautiful Woodland Hills Golf Course near Eagle, Nebraska, the site for the 15th Annual FFA and 4-H Golf Classic, to benefit the educational and scholarship funds for Nebraska youth involved in FFA and 4-H organizations. Eighty-two people attended the after-golf awards dinner where the featured speaker was Husker Football Coach Bo Pelini. The seven Nebraska State FFA Officers and two 4-H members from Otoe County were on hand to assist with the Golf Classic and to thank those who participated.
Golf foursomes had their picture taken with Coach Pelini and an auction of Coach Pelini-autographed items raised additional funds for the two youth programs.
The winning members of the Championship Flight were Jeff Stone, Brandon Roth, Jeff Henn and LaVerle Miller of the United Farmers Cooperative team from York (pictured at left).
The winning members of the First Flight were Rich Herink, First National Bank, Lincoln; Marlin Krohn, Hertz Farm Management of Norfolk; Lt. Governor Rick Sheehy; and Joe Law, Farm Credit Services of America, Grand Island.
Major Sponsors of the event continuously for fifteen years were Farm Credit Services of America, Farmers National Company of Omaha and Pioneer Hi-Bred International of Lincoln. In addition, Monsanto and United Farmers Cooperative of York have been Major Sponsors for several years.
Gold Sponsors were Ag and Food Associates, LLC of Omaha; Central Valley Ag located throughout Nebraska; Rural Community Insurance Services, Ashland; and Winfield Solutions, LLC, of Seward.
Twenty-four individuals and companies were Hole Sponsors and many others donated raffle and pin prizes. For a complete list of the 2009 FFA and 4-H Golf Classic Sponsors, please click here.
The tournament raised over $50,000 for the two foundations. Proceeds from the day’s events will benefit Nebraska FFA and 4-H youth by funding FFA leadership training, 4-H club program initiatives, FFA awards, the three 4-H state camps and centers, scholarship and leadership workshops, as well as skill event competitions and recognition programs.
